The first Aero Medical Training Center was formed as Explosive Decompression Unit in 1969 at Air Force Station Hindon. It was named 1 Aero Medical Training Center on 30 Jun 71. The Center has the primary tasks of

  1. Aeromedical Indoctrination and training
  2. Aeromedical Research
  3. Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy.
  4. Medical evaluation of PJIs skydivers and paratroopers

As and when required, the Center is tasked with the study of various emerging Aeromedical issues, medical officers' training for specialization in Aviation Medicine and comprehensive aircrew medical care in form of a Aeromedical cell at the local base. The Center has conducted a large number of research projects and has been active in ISAM scientific conferences. The Center conducts regular courses for Transport and Helicopter aircrew.
